11B01 Meeting of the Lord - 20th c. 8x10
The Meeting of the Lord in the Temple (also called the Presentation) is one of the Great Feasts of the Orthodox Church, celebrated on February 2. The feast occurs precisely 40 days after the feast of Nativity and recalls the presentation of the Christ child in the temple in Jerusalem by his holy parents, the Righteous Joseph and the Most Holy Theotokos as is described in the Gospel of Luke. Christ was received in the arms of the elder Simeon, who then prayed, "Now let Thy servant depart in peace... for I have seen Thy salvation." Excellent bridal shower gift, reminding the parents to take the infant to the priest on his 40th day.

11C02 Theophany or Baptism of Christ 8x10
Excellent baptismal gift! St. John has his right hand on Jesus' head to baptize Him. A personification of the sea and the Jordan is seen in the water, for "the sea saw it and fled, Jordan was turned back." (Psalm 113). Celebrated on January 6th. Every year on Epiphany day (by the Old Calendar) the Jordan River reverses its course when the Greek Orthodox bishop prays and drops the cross in the water.

Originaly celebratedn the year 843 in Constantinople, signifying the end of the persecution of holy icons. A proper gift for those who do not understand the purpose of icons. The Victory (Triumph) of Orthodoxy is considered a momentous occasion in the life of the Church and to this day, it is celebrated on the first Sunday of the Easter Lent. The Mother of God is supported by two angels and on Her side are the Empress Theodora who legalized icons, with the infant son Michael and Patriarch Methodius.

This is a beautiful icon of Christ being lovingly taken down from the Cross by St. Joseph of Arimathea, St. Nikodemos, and one other disciple with two of the Myrrh-Bearing Women looking on. The Mother of God presses her cheek to His Hand as the Lord of Life now tasting death for all of our sakes is brought down to the ground.

Based on ancient prototypes, our icon of The Resurrection shows Christ's triumphant descent into Hades after His death on the Cross on Great Friday. As described in the Apocryphal Gospel of Nicodemus, we see Him freeing those souls held in the bondage of death, and also bestowing freedom on those righteous souls who were as yet unable to enter Paradise. An icon of hope, it should be in every home.

The Myrrhbearers are the women who unlike the apostles, risked their lives and went to the Tomb of Christ carrying myrrh and other spices to anoint His dead body. On finding instead an empty tomb, they were the first to preach the Resurrection. In the Orthodox Church they are called "Apostles to the Apostles; the First Preachers of the Resurrection."

The Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary is celebrated on August 15 each year. The Feast commemorates the repose (dormition and in the Greek kimisis) or "falling-asleep" of the Mother of Jesus Christ, our Lord. The Feast also commemorates the translation or assumption into heaven of the body of the Theotokos.
