Great wedding gift! Saint Euphrosynos was entrusted to the care of the Amorean Monastery on Mount Athos as a young boy. He was uneducated and uninterested in intellectual pursuits. He preferred simple tasks like cooking for the monastery. One night, the Abbot of the monastery dreamt of a garden. The only person in the garden was Saint Euphrosynos who explained that the garden was paradise, and handed him a branch with three apples on it. When the Abbot awoke, he was holding the branch. He asked Saint Euphrosynos where he had been, and Saint Euphrosynos told him that he was with him in the garden. The monks then held Saint Euphrosynos in honor. Not wanting to be praised, he left to live as a hermit. Traditionally, Orthodox kitchens will have an icon of Saint Euphrosynos to remind us of the food of Paradise. Celebrated on September 11.
